My First Shotgun!! MOSSBERG! (PICS ADDED)

I Dros'ed my first shotgun today at the san marcos,Ca Turner's. I got myself a Mossberg 500 with a heat shield and the pistol grip conversion kit. 12 ga, 18" barrel. I'm really happy with my purchase, especially since the wife gave me $200.00 towards it. SHE RULES! It looks kinda like this..........

Except mine comes with the "Ribbed" fore end. Pump thingy...First shotgun DONT JUDGE ME!! lol. Now the torture of waiting to pick it up begins......is it time yet?

That's one cool wife - and shotgun, too! I pick up a 590A1 tomorrow off DROS - my first shotgun, too (discounting the ones my father bought me for hunting as a kid).

Great choice! I'll hopefully be picking one up for a dedicated HD shotgun soon...

                Nice!

Now don't shoot no Magnum Turkey Loads, with the Pistol Grip on it.....just saying..from experience!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Great choice! My first shotgun was the same Mossberg but it was about 15 years ago.
Dont be in a hurry to put the pistol grip on, shoot it with the regular stock first.

These are the Defensive loads I keep with my Mossberg. They have tight patterns.

I use the Federal Tactical Low Recoil also, and have some Brenneke Tactical Home Defense slugs, too.

Congrats on the purchase. Now tell us how the heck you got your wife to subsidize your gun purchase! I'm trying to get my gf to subsidize my next pistol purchase for my birthday!

As far as defensive loads, I just keep 3 rounds of 00 buck and 3 rounds of Fiocchi low recoil police slugs on my 870's side saddle.

Shotgun defensive loads have been discussed here and on other forums ad nauseum. Here's one of them: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=298118

Personally, I have #4 buckshot in the tube and 00/slugs on the sidesaddle (mostly because #4 buck was on sale and I bought it first). From a home defense/overpenetration stand point, the difference between #4 buck & 00 is miniscule. Shoot several loads of each to find which patterns best at the distances you'll likely shoot. Then buy a bunch and train, train, train.
