    Question about magazine spacer

Bear with me on this question, I've never gotten a real answer about this. I have a 12 gauge Benelli Supernova. In the tube magazine there's an orange plastic spacer so that only 2 shells can be loaded in the magazine at a time instead of 4, can I take this out? Is there any reason that this is in there? Someone told me that legally I couldn't take it hunting if it could hold more than 3 shells (2+1). Thanks.

That person is right. If you take the shotgun hunting you are required to have the mag plug in. All semi and pumps have them. It will be one of the first things a Game Warden will ckeck.....Not a cheep ticket, and you might lose your gun. 3 shells max in the field, 1+2 in the mag.

Yes, it can be removed and the gun will work fine.

I live in Kalifornia. What does "in the field" mean? How about the range? How about transporting?

"In the field" means hunting. The range and the vehicle are not an issue. Even if you were to shoot on BLM land, it would be legal to not have the plug in. The plug is a requirement for "method of take" If you are not taking anything, no requirement. You do not need a hunting license to shoot at the range in any state/federal land. On the other hand, convincing the game warden that you are not hunting might not be easy.

While the burden of proof is on them, the burden of aggravation is on you.

If you're on BLM/State administered land during hunting season make sure the plug is in. The other poster is right - the wardens will first check if the plug is in. If you're at a designated range on BLM/state land don't leave the area without having the plug in during hunting season.
