Definitely you're choice where to go, but just like you wouldn't use a hammer to punch in a screw (although you could) proper tools for the job.

I beg to differ with this analogy! I think it'd be more like "just like you wouldn't use an allen wrench on a torx screw". My SG was doing ok.. didn't hit everything I was aiming at, but I think that's because I suck, and not the gun.

I'm simply stating why I don't go out and get a proper trap/skeet gun. Cause that's all I would use it for (sporting). I'mt not using it for "tactical training" either since there's nothing tactical about shooting clays. Just shooting a weapon is a perishable skill and I like to shoot the guns I use on a regular basis. Shooting clays is more fun than shooting a paper target.

I agree with this. If I get more serious about the sport itself, I can justify buying the equipment for it. For now, I am of the mindset that my priorities are HD. No, I don't plan to defend my home from birds, but it is good practice to shoot at moving targets from different presentations. It's always good to throw in some variety in your training; can't be doing urban combat simulations all the time!

It does have to do with safety. Most of the goof balls that shoot "tactical shoty's" aren't very safe

Nah, I'm not racing anybody anytime soon. Although, going to the track is something I'd like to do someday! How can you leave the duc in the garage? You must have kids.

Actually HD shotguns come with cylinder chokes. A full choke has the most restriction, and a cylinder the least. Barrel length has nothing to do with the spread, it's the choke. Also, the longer sight plane of a longer barrel makes it much easier to follow and hit the target. Personally, I like a longer barrel for hunting birds, but if I'm after rabbits in the brush, I prefer a 18.5".

who taught you this?

why do goose hunters use 30-36 inch barrels. trap shooters use 28-32 inch and quail hunters use 22-26 inch field?

if you had said "barrel length is just one part of pattern along with choke" i wouldn't have thought twice.

as far as the longer sight plane making tracking easier how do you account for the top level shots that dust the bird 20 feet out of the house?

as for all the "HD practice shooting" your average hd shotgun round will be fired at 10-20 ft and the pattern will still be pretty much solid projectile even if you had a 10 inch barrel

once you chase him out side and fire you are not defending as your life is no longer in danger, just attempting pre-med murder.
