    Benelli M4 vs M1014

So I am a Benelli owner from back before I lived in the PRK. I am now looking into the Benelli M4 and to be PRK compliant it can't have the collapsible stock.

I am thinking of getting an M4 with a fixed stock and buying the collapsible stock assembly including tube for out of state use. I figure I can leave the tube on all the time and just change out the stock when out of state. I am very familiar with removing the stock on my M1 and M2

My question is can you use the multi-position collapsible tube with the fixed stock?

From a legal stand point why can't you use the skeleton stock that is fixed in the open position? I don't think this approach will be any easier as out of state I will have to replace the single position tube with the three position but I am still curious.

    Thanks,

    -JP

From what I can tell given my M4, M4s come with the correct 3 position tube for the collapsible stock however they are shipped with a fixed PG stock as a general rule so you would probably not have to buy a tube in addition to the collapsible stock assembly.

From a technical standpoint this should be perfectly okay, as any stock designed for the M4 should install correctly on this tube. From a legal standpoint there should not be a problem when there is a fixed length stock installed on the 3 position tube. The fixed stock cannot be collapsed or folded when installed as per its design so it matters not if the tube can accommodate a collapsible stock...as long as it does not accommodate said collapsing stock within CA state borders.

As to using a pinned collapsible stock, yes that would be legal. However it is advisable to err on the side of caution when pinning, so it may be more work unpin a collapsing stock than simply removing the fixed length stock and installing the collapsible when out of state.

Given what I have heard around here though, you may like the fixed length stocks better. Apparently the collapsible stocks are less than comfortable.

And considering Benelli stopped importing the collapsible stock for civvies they have gone crazy up in cost - I sold mine for almost $1K a year ago.....that's the stock ONLY....

I don't know if this is true or not so here goes. I was told if your M4 doesn't have the LE designation it won't accept the tube stock. I have no idea if this is true look into it if you want.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

I'd put money on this not being true...I'll check to see if mine is LE marked when I get home just to be sure though. All I know is in stock configuration (the way I bought it) it had a shiny 3 position tube which somewhat implies it can accept the collapsing stock, and I don't remember any LE markings but I could be wrong.

So I don't know that there is specificily an LE designation on the gun itself. The way I understand it the part number decides what is under the covers.

My concern is simply that I buy an M4 and it won't take the 3 position tube. At that point I am stuck with the fixed stock. At least if I know on the front end that the M4 won't take the 3 position tube I can suck it up and by the limited run M1014 with the single position stock already on it and have a middleman FFL install tube and the fixed stock over it.

I am not overly concerned about cost for the tube as I have access to a resource that can purchase LE accessories. I am concerned about the inflated cost of the M1014 limited edition as most of the added expense is in the flag stamped on the receiver.

M11707s have LE as part of the designation as per the label on the box.

Buy a current generation M4 (M11707) and you shouldn't have any problems as it comes with the correct 3 position tube installed. Or at least it should.

To get the functionality you want you do not need a US flag stamped M1014.
