    Shotgun Terminolgy Help

I'm looking at a used Browning Gold Hunter 12ga with 24" barrel. The seller is out of state and wants $600 shipped to FFL.

He said this "it has 2 full, 2 imp cyl, 1 skeet, 1 modified, and 1 rifled choke tube"

What does 2 full, 2 imp cyl mean?

Its a 6 year old gun with minimal usage. Does $600 sound decent?

The shotgun choke determines the spread of the projectiles, to allow for a wide range of applications, with the same shotgun. All shotguns vary depending on brand, barrel, ammunition, and other factors.

The choke is basically a tapered constriction, which allows a controlled spread of projectiles. The shotgun patterns allow for a consistent spread. The chart displayed on the right can vary from firearm to firearm, and should be tested at the range for the desired constriction.

For best results shooting at your desired distance on a rest, will ensure that you have the proper group, and consistent results for the desired application. To determine what type of shotgun choke will work on your firearm, there is a useful link that will help determine the compatible chokes.

          Thanks Racer

          Great Info!

Trying to decide now between the Browning, an 1100 with 2 barrels, or an FN SLP MKI

I want to get into trap and skeet.

I have a new Mossberg 500 persuader but the pistol grip and 18.5" barrel are suited for that. I was using the Mossberg for home defense but could sell it depending on which semi auto I get.

This is a little short for trap. Minimum should be about 28". For skeet you can go down to 26". 28" would probably be best for both.
