    rem 1100 issues

the other day I took my 13 year old son trap shooting and I bought some light loads federal (1 1/8th oz)for him to shoot. I ran out of my shells so I popped a few of those rounds my 1100 and I found that it would not eject the spent shells. he has a pump so didnt have any problems so I assume that it is because of the light load but i have never had that problem before just wondering if anbody else has seen this

I shot a 1100 TB trap for decades. 1100's don't adjust as well to load variation as the newer 11-87. I am sure that there is a way to change some spring rates and make it shoot lighter loads. I suspect that your gun is designed for field loads. Brownells has a Parts breakdown for various models, It would be interesting to see if Remington uses the same springs in Target-field-magnum models. Heavy field loads hit my Trap gun really hard.

My 1100 field gun cycles very well on the Federal and Winchester bargain stuff from WalMart as well as on heavier loads.

Might want to give the gas ports a good cleaning in case there is some fouling built up in there robbing power.

          Things to check:
Is your barrel chambered for 3"? Magnum barrels won't cycle 2.75" shells.
          Are the gas ports clean?
How many rounds through your gun since the gas rings were last changed?
Are the gas ring gaps set 180 degrees off from each other? If they're lined up, no cycle. They have to be installed correctly too. If you have a pre 76 1100, it has the older style gas rings, now would be a good time to upgrade to the newer style.
Wal-Mart Federal bulk ammo with aluminum heads?
I gave up trying to use that in my auto loaders, US made Fiocchi too. The loads are so inconsistent, you can actually hear and feel the difference.
