Best paint for a Mossy?

I would like to apply a matte finish to the gun but dont how to do it. I could send it out to get parkerized but it would cost too much. Would high heat paint work well?

I had some leftover camo spray paint from a different project. It was Krylon Fusion that was like $5 per can.

The 18" barrel I had Was rusty enough that I had to ruin the finish to get it off. Since it doesn't have a rib, and I didn't care if it didn't look the greatest, I decided to try it.

I roughed up the barrel with some steel wool then degreased it. I applied 2 coats of matte black camo spray paint, following the instructions for drying times. Lastly I applied two coats of a matte sealer from a spray can. The second coat of the sealer was a little too heavy and it showed up in a few spots.


I'm planning on doing evrything to the other metal parts on my mossberg 500 since it's such a low cost job and I don't want to worry about my "survival gun" rusting (on the outside, at least). Im not sure if doing something like sandblasting would help. I have an uncle that could do it that I've been meaning to talk to about it.

I painted mine with plastic paint from the hobby shop. But I dont think it will hold up to heat.

for the barrel, high temprature engine paint should work fine, a lot of that stuff is good up to a couple thousand degrees.

I forgot to say something in my whole long thing...

After painting the barrel I went out and shot around 35 to 50 shells fairly quickly (about 10 or 15 minutes) and the barrel got hot enough where I couldn't touch it at all. There were no signs of damage to the new finish.

LOL we have the same shotgun. Mine is black instead of green though. BTW how do you like the mile marker winch?? or is it the harbor freight mile marker winch?

As for paint. I seriously woudl use the krylon camo paint. i did a SKS and a remington ( both tiger stripe camo) for a buddy of mine and its been about 5 years now and the only place he shows wear is right where the web of his thumb rubs the pistol grip. Just sand it down and get rid of the grease/cosmo/oil. I took the gun pulled off any plastic wood broke the gun down and let it soak in a tub of dawn overnight. Scrubbed it the next day rinsed it let it dry, threw a quick dip in a small tub of MEK and then primered it and painted it. Im gonna do the same to my poly 14

Its a Mile Marker. I like it especially since it was FREE (won it in a raffle). It hasnt let me down yet.
