Custom Hawk 982

Hello, I picked up my IAC Hawk 982 today from Big 5. I ordered the Hogue Overmold stock kit for it and I'm getting it Duracoated OD green Next week. Will the Duracoat affect anything in a negative way? Like will the shotgun assemble correctly after everything is Duracoated. I can't take off the magazine tube from the receiver? Also I want to cover up the made in China marking on the receiver before I Duracoat it, Will JB Weld work for that? Thanks, I'll post pics asap when it's call done.

A good duracoat guy will know what to mask off, so reassembly souldn't be a problem.

JB weld or marine-tex will cover up the made in china but I'd refrain from that do to NFA regulations about firearm markings.

I got mine yesterday. May take it apart and see what I can buff with a dremel to smooth out the action a little more.

No buffing necessary just shoot the tar out of it and it should smooth up real nice.

Just got home from shooting it. I'm very impressed with its accuracy with rifled slugs. I'm able to hit a 24inch target at 150 yards with it. I love this gun, cant wait till its all done.

I did that to mine when I got it and now it is almost as smooth as my 1950Wingmaster. The hammer spring is much stronger on the 982, otherwise it would be as smooth.

you might have a hard time replacing the 982's forearm with an 870 forearm. the 870 forearm wouldnt fit so I resorted to cutting the 982 forearm in order to install a sidesaddle. When i installed a pistol grip speedfeed stock(made for the 870) i had to shave the plastic that meets the receiver to get rid of a gap but it came together snug.

870 stocks fit

I put a Mesa Tactical LEO stock and Hogue forened (both made for the 870) on my Hawk 982. The Mesa fit perfectly. The Hogue foreend took some work, but went on. The Hawk action tube is slightly larger in dia than an 870, so you may have to sand away some on the inside of the Hogue. Conversely, the original Hawk forend was a ***** to remove, it was on so tight.
Can't answer the duracoat questions, but the guy doing the work should be able to fill-in the stampings and complete the coating.

After replacing the Hawk stocks, I went ahead and replace the old wood on my 870 Wingmaster with the Hawk synthetic stock set. The 870 action tube needed a wrap of electrical tape for the forend to snug on, the butstock fit like it was made for it.
