Put a deposit on a Stoeger Double Defense today

Just wanted to mention that I placed an order for a Stoeger Double Defense 12-gauge. I went through Sportmen's Supply in Campbell because the staff there was great and the price they gave me beat about three other places.

I saw and handled one first-hand Wednesday over at the Gun Room in Sac as I waited to do a transfer with another Calgunner. Might just be me but I've always wanted a side-by-side. Anyone have any thoughts on this shotgun?

On a second note, this isn't my primary HD shotty, I currently own a Benelli Nova pump.

My take.... single selective trigger, not the usual double triggers, will put off some purists and those who think firing off both bores at the same time will be amusing. No external hammers means a hot gun when ever the action is closed with no way to "let the hammers off" for storage. Provision for light = smart. Provision for red dot = needless.

For straight HD, I'd still choose a pump first. But there is something about the simplicity of two barrels full of 00B in a very compact package that is truly point and click.

my Benelli Nova has been a trusty HD since I got into guns so this just adds to the collection. $419 at Sportsmen Supply, $469 at Reed's, $449 @ Gun Room. CA legal too.

what do you think of the spartan SPR-220 vs the stoeger? i was thinking of getting a sxs shotty as well...

I have a Spartan 310 over under and am very happy with it. I've seen a couple examples of the 220 model and they seemed pretty solid. You may have a hard time finding one new in box as Remington discontinued most (all?) of the line and distributors have been closing them out. My guess is that what there are would solely be on the secondary market.

2 shot capacity in your HD/SD weapon is not smart.

i have a chines made "coach gun" two triggers, double hammer. the single trigger, no hammer, is simpler, and creates less confusion in which barrel, the trigger will discharge first, (if you have different loads, for over penetration situations). as to the calif legality, of course it is legal, as long as it's barrel is a min of 18" in length, with an overall length of 26". after ll it is not an evil, high capacity semi auto.
