Rem 870: Cylinder barrel -OR- Choke/breacher Barrel?

    Hi guys,

So which is a better type of barrel for 870? I'm looking for something in 18" or 18.5". It would be used for range shooting, and mainly HD. Also could be used for some hunting, if that.

I've noticed there are two kinds of barrels that come on the new 870. One is a cylinder bore 18". Another is similar, but has a choke fitting at the end of the barrel, known as the breacher. It got pointed design, and screws into the barrel. I think it's the better choice cuz you can change the pattern of the ammo, using different chokes.
It's solid, ultra-dependable action makes it America's favorite. If you could throw the lid off every duck blind, stop by every pheasant field and check out every tra

    No brainer get the breacher.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

The breacher device is specific to the task of forcibly opening closed doors using frangible slugs. IIRC they are unchoked, although someone will correct me if I am wrong. I'm not entirely sure a breacher tube is going to be interchangeable with choke tubes. Perhaps aippi will see this and advise.

They look cool and all, but aside from their specific purpose it's kind of hard to see the value add of the breacher. For my money, I'd go with the standard 18.5 inch barrel and call it good.

you are refering the extended tactical choke that is made for Remington by "Haskinator". It is not a breeching device and should not be used as one. It is simply and extended choke and is called the Remington Tactical Choke or as we foundly call it the "Rem Joke"

This device has not benifit other then appearence and on the down side, is a Cly bore and only adds length and wieght to the weapon.

However, since you want a Rem choke barrel you can still get that model, take the Rem Joke off and sell it and use any Rem Choke tubes you want as they will work in that barrel. And yes, I sell the Rem Jokes due to the fact that I can sometimes not get the 25077 model and end up with models that have that mess on them. So, I sell them to get them the heck out of my shop. I always try and talk a buyer out of putting this mess on his build and just did that today.
