Thoughts on Centurion Multi-Defense Buck Shot

Hey all,

What's the consensus on this Centurion stuff as home defense ammo.

I bought a box of it out of curiousity and just like the reviews say it keeps a real tight pattern. At about 25 yds it pretty much just made a ragged hole about as big around as a raquet ball. Something just seems scary about a .65 caliber ball followed by some #1 shot. Also, I'd be real worried about that stuff going through walls. Any have any other opinions/experiences with this stuff?

No...but I'm sure curios now. Thinking about doing my own test by taking a 2x4 and sandwiching it between 2 small squares of drywall. Make a couple and try a few different loads to see the result.

Tried this recently with scraps of high density particle board painted white for clarity to decide on the question of bird shot as a HD load for myself.

The obvious answer was...obvious.

Might make a good range report project.

I've got a case or so of this stuff. I really like it. It patterns pretty well, quite the opposite of what I expected. Over-penetration will be an issue, but it makes a real mess of an engine block ... from what I've heard.

I think it's ideal for use against killer cyborgs sent from the future.

Reviews that advise "tight patterns always" I tend to take with a grain of salt. Every gun is going to pattern somewhat differently. Don't count on the ammo without knowing exactly how it patterns from your gun. That said, it does look like an interesting load and would likely be devestating at typical HD ranges of 20 feet and less.

Might check at Box o' Truth and see if they've already tried this ammo for penetration.

Save your money and use slugs if you dont like buckshot.

Oh, I use just plain old buckshot. These just piqued my interest when I saw them so I ordered a single box. As stated in the original post I have actually put some of them through my HD gun and they do group extremely tight, for me at least. I was putting tangerine-sized ragged holes in the paper from 20-25yds with maybe one or two #1 shot flyers spreading way out in a random direction.
