I have my Grandpa's old Sears Model 66 3" chamber. The gas system on it is a bunch of disks sitting on a the top of the magazine tube. It is a rifle that has some sentimental value to me. Id like to shoot it. Hasn't been shot in 30 years. It is very clean and has been stored correctly. In the process of blowing the dust off of it (figure of speech), I noticed that in order to clean and re-oil it there are these disks under a 3 notch spanner nut. The spanner nut is hand loose however under tension from the wave washers under the nut.
I have searched high and low for an answer to my question.
How do I set this nut in the correct spot? How much tension do I place on the gas ports under the wave washers.
Does the barrel remove from the frame without any special tools?
It says 3" on the barrel. can I shoot 2 3/4?
Any other information/history would be appreciated.
I know it is a $79.95 shotgun in 1962 however it is of higher in value to me.
