    Red Dots and Shotguns

Anyone mount a red dot scope on their shotgun? How difficult was it to get it on target? Other than getting it level any other major concerns? (eye relief is a given)

    Yes t-1 micro on a benelli m4.

It was very easy to zero the sight.

It was a major improvement over the extremely large benelli ghost ring sights.

Only issue I have with electronic dot sights on HD guns is you have to turn your sights on, to the proper level. Acogs tritium sights, different story, they are always on.
On game guns, dots are da bom! I'm old fashioned and have had a number of episodes that when I needed my battery powered sights, they were dead. At a match it was no biggie, I carry spares in my bag. But when things go crash in the night....I/you don't have time to exchange batteries.
But as many of the Master 3 gun shooters show us, dots are fast! Small and light is usually the way to go.

I'm not using the gun for HD, I have a nice wheel gun that hits where I point it and makes big holes for that........

My red dot sight has 5 years of continuous use at positions 8-12...position 7 is more than bright enough for me. There is no reason to not use superior sights in an HD situation.

I've been using the Primary Arms micro dot sight (Aimpoint T-1 knockoff) mounted to a Mesa Tactical rail/side saddle on my Rem 870 and it works great! It's not my primary HD gun, so I don't mind the PA sight. Also, one of the nice things about using a micro-dot sight is it still gives you a pretty darn good idea of where you're gonna hit, even with the red dot off (kind of like a massive ghost ring sight.) It's not ideal, but if you know your gun and pretty much know where it's going to hit anyway (especially with buckshot or any non-slug) then it certainly helps with "point and shoot."

I mounted a red/green dot on an old .410 that I only shoot slugs with.

Tyrist, what sight do you have? I'd be happy with 2 years if it really happened. My experience with Tasco's (PD3 and 4) and the new Sig mirco is not anywhere close to that. My EOTEC shuts off after 8 hours, so I have to "turn my sight on" to use my AR.
So I'm just curious, new stuff out there all the time.

This question would go well on the brian enos forums. Lots of open shooters that have done this to their shotguns. They've tried all kinds of mounts and dots on all kinds of shotguns.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

I use the aimpoint micro t-1. I run it on a benelli m4.

If you use an Aimpoint Micro, it states you can leave it on for 5years before changing battery. Thats pretty darn good.
