Went out shooting tonight

Hello all, got my trusty Benelli Supernova out to Targetmasters West in Milpitas tonight. I am in love.... . I never knew a shotgun could be so much fun and I was shooting paper. 15 yards is as far as they let me get and they only allow birdshot. The guy at the counter tells me that they only allow 1 type of target, a full size silhouette. I was a little peeved but I saw why later. The gun has no choke, cylinder they call it I think which is great for HD but not much else (HD is the main purpose). I go to lane 10, setup my huge target, load up my black beauty, line up the sights and squeeze. BOOM!!!!!! Wow, at 15 yards my spread is 14" or more, I rack another, and another..... After 1 box my shoulder felt like it was going to fall off, I wanted more but my body says no. I am holding the gun tight, but not too tight. I think I will look into a recoil pad for my next outing. Cant wait to shoot some jugs I have saved in the garage, Thanks for listening, Sammy

Gotta make sure that it's snug in the pocket (not on any bone, etc.) when you shoulder it, then lean into it. It helps me to use the weak hand to "lock" it in there.

You can always head to Jackson Arms. There you have to shoot buckshot. My first time shooting a shotgun at Jackson Arms was also my shortest range trip ever.

haha, this seems funny to me, i go out and shoot 3-4 100 round packs of the federal cheap birdshot whenever i go out to burro, and i never get sore. we usually do a full box of clays out at the clay area, and then shoot the rest when we go to shoot whatever else we brought. so far the worst punishment from a shotgun was shooting high velocity 3" buck out of a NEF single shot.

NOW what made me sore was firing 200 rounds of 7.62x54r out of my M44 and SVT-40, and then another 100 rounds of 8mm out of a friends K98 and G43.

i was happy to finish the day off with 100 rounds of .30 carbine, man the M1 carbine seems like nothing after that, so light, and pointable!

I usually take my Mossberg to the Range and fire a few rounds of 3 inch slugs before I shoot my 1911. After the slugs the 1911 seems like a BB gun and I can shoot 2-3 inch groups at 25 yards with ease.

I usually take my Mossberg to the Range and fire a few rounds of 3 inch slugs before I shoot my 1911. After the slugs the 1911 seems like a BB gun and I can shoot 2-3 inch groups at 25 yards with ease.

I guess I am a newbie when it comes to shotguns. I can shoot my Springfield Scout all day long but the Benelli feels different in my shoulder. I think push-ups will help, but it has been a while. Thanks for the help. Sammy (Senior member to you)

Reed's Range will let you shoot buck, birdshot, and slugs.

I'm a bit recoil sensitive, and it's hard for my to practice enough with my pumps (except my .410, which is a lot of fun). My new used Remington 1100 is a real joy to shoot, even with slugs - no problem with recoil, even after 50-60 rounds. I'm thinking about getting the tactical version to replace the pumps now...
