New shottie

Just picked up my new toy during lunch today. A Benelli SuperSport 12g. w/ 30in. barrel and lots of other cool stuff: ComforTech stock, CrioChokes, CrioTech barrel and lots of other marketing terms. Now I'm ready to go shoot some trap and have some 12 year old girl with a beat up 870 outshoot me.

not to hijack the thread, but can anyone explain what exactly the difference between shooting trap and skeet and sporting clays is? or better yet, point me out to any good sites dedicated to the shotgun sports? all the ones i've come across seem to be selling one book or another.

Please explain the difference between skeet, trap and sporting clays. What characteristics are required in a shotgun and in ammunition for each discipline?

and 5-Stand is a subset of sporting clays.

I've never shot any of these and am curious as well.

that link pretty much sums it well for the clays sport. Trap is the easiest of the three. I haven't tried sporting clays yet, but I will soon skeet is a lot of fun as is trap to begin with. Good ranges in the bay area to try out Trap are Livermore and Sunnyvale(26" min barrel length here due to neighbor's noise complaints) I use a modified choke on my beretta or franchi for trap, most people use a skeet or IC choke for skeet. next range to try out is this one.

I shot 20 of 25 on a trap run. I went out and bought a copy of the shotgun immediately! Since then the only time my gun has shot that well was when Mechandy's kid was shootin it. Nice shottie Pidooma cant wait to shoot it!

For skeet, you fire two shots. There are 2 birds coming from the left and right, one high and one low. They fly fast, but always the same trajectory every time. For trap, the birds fly out away from you from a thrower in front of you. They fly slow but take random paths. I haven't tried sporting clays, but would like to. I tried skeet once and decided trap was for me. If you want to try trap, you can come down to Lake Chabot's range and give it a try. If you don't have a shotgun, I can loan you my 1100 for a round.
