    Converting a 870 express tactical.

Can I convert an 870 Express Tactical 18.5" barrel with the 7 round mag tube with a longer barrel for trap? Seems after searching doing the opposite is more common i.e. converting a trap gun into a HD shotgun. But can the other way around be done?

sure can. You simply need to have a longer barrel, a four shot spring and a mag cap. It would be nice if the barrel has the detent on the barrel ring to retain the mag cap, however, you can get by without it as Brownells sells a wave washer that will do the same thing.

You simply take your barrel and mag extension off. Put the new barrel on. You can use the same follower and simply put the four shot spring in the mag tube. Work the spring down and screw on the mag cap. Remember when you take the cap off that there is no retainor so the spring is going to pop out. The retainor is not needed and simply a safety device to keep the spring from flying out when you take the mag cap off. Be careful or forever be known as ol' one eye, but it works fine with out one.

If your long barrel has the detend ball on the barrel ring then you need the police or the wingmaster mag cap. If it does not then any mag cap will work even the univeral ones or any after market one. If no detent ball, then put the wave washer between the barrel ring and mag cap. However, a small drop of blue loc-tite will work just as well.

Then agin, you can shoot then traps with the tube on incase a whole mess of them traps come at you at the same time, you'lll have plenty of ammo.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

TYVM Aippi I appreciate the great response. This is exactly what I'm going to do thx. Until I can decide which dedicated trap gun to buy.
