Shooting Slugs Thru A Fixed Full Choke? OK?

Trying to get a straight answer on this. The research I have down I get both answer, Yes you can shoot them and no you cant you destroy your gun.

What the heck is it? Anyone have any experience with this?

    thanks

Standard FOSTER type slugs are undersized and are safe to shoot through fixed choke (to standard Full) barrels.

Sabot slugs are will eventually blow out the choke and are NOT recommended in choked barrels. Along with poor accuracy.

Don't shoot any slugs out of Extra Full, Turkey or other tight chokes.
    Luck favors the prepared.

The original battle plan did not survive initial contact with the enemy.

MY GSwho had 40+ years building and repairing weapons told me not to shoot slugs thru full choked Winchester Model 12 shotgun barrels so I followed his suggestions,I did shoot lead slugs thru my Ithaca 16g modified choked barrel w/o any problems.I have a Remington 870 Wingmaster with trap, skeet & a field barrel with remchokes.

Personally I run on the safe side and don't shoot slugs any tighter than a modified choke. Ammo can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer so what is ok from one may or may not be ok from another.

          Clear as mud right?

One of the reasons slugs are lead is so that they will be soft enough to squeeze through chokes that are to small.

Rule of thumb for me is that you shouldn't, but if you do it shouldn't damage anything in your gun, but if you keep doing it you will eventually blow out your choke.

It is fine to shoot slugs out of a full choke barrel. With the exception of slugs that shouldn't be shot through a full choke barrel will tell you that on the box.

If it doesn't say no it is ok.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

Somebody at the shotgun range told me to shoot a few slugs out of my Beretta 301 fixed full choke because it would open it up a bit, but then again I don't believe everything I hear at a range/store.

Does't look like you're going to get a straight answer here either.

My advice, it's not a good idea. Modified or larger only. I don't care what it says on the box or what anybody else says. It's just not worth the risk to my guns.

^^^ This ^^^ is sage advice and about as straight an answer as you'll find. The man knows his shotguns.

Shooting slugs out of guns choked more than modified is never a good idea. I've seen strange things happen to a few barrels in my time when slugs were involved.

And I'd think to not shoot them in choke tubed guns more than cylinder, unless it's sabots through a rifled tube, but that's just the way I feel about it. I just can't see myself chasing a tube down the range.
