Anyone use one of these? Are they solely cosmetic? They do look kind of cool; but do they serve any purpose?

This 'un. Looks cool, at least. The more I read about it, the more it seems to be just cosmetic.Last edited by Cato; 03-11-2007, 11:49 PM.Comment

Since it states in that link that no part of the muzzle mount should stick out past the end of the barrel, it is purely cosmetic as far as using escaping gasses to reduce recoil. It is not purely cosmetic if you use the weaver rail to mount a light or laser. It is in that case serving a purpose as a rail. Some recoil reduction may come from added weight at the end of the barrel, especially if the flashlight is heavy. However, the holes that make it look like a flashider or muzzle brake are purely cosmetic. I suppose holes could be drilled in the barrel so gasses could go through the cuts but that would be the same as porting the barrel without the mount.JPN

Looks like its cosmetic but provides a little rail on the bottom. If you're going for looks and the price is right that might be for you. I found this old link I have, not sure if there still in business though, its a flash suppressor and I have no idea if it works or not. I thought it looked cool at the time...
There are companies out there that sell breaching tools that attach to the end of your shotgun or you could go with an extended choke that has a brake built in. Your SG has to be threaded for both of those to be an option though...
