Have the 20" A1, never have gotten to handle the 18.5" version, but it seems like it would be a lot handier.
If it was a snake, it would have bit me.

I've seen patterns that kept all 9 pellets on an IPSC target @ 35 yards with an 18" barrel. That's slug territory for almost every "security" (read: cyl. bore choke) shotgun made. Because the Vang barrel is cylinder bore at the muzzle, slugs are no problem to fire and group nicely as well.
So I'm not sure what you'd want to compare patterns with, because, frankly there is no comparison between a stock 590 barrel and the Vang modified 590 barrel. One shoots like a scattergun and the Vang patterns like....a Vang. There are a number of "tests" done. Go to Han's website and look at his targets, scary thing is I've seen and shot better patterns with his barrels.
If you think you want a custom, tight shooting shotgun, look no further than Vang Comp Systems. His sights are the best in the market, his comp works and he stands behind his product. I own 2 Vangs both 590's and I've used Vang products for nearly 10 years now and when something has fouled up (plastic followers) he not only replaced them he came out with better products.
I woukldn't give you a plug nickle for an over priced Wilson/Scattergun Technology weapon. And even though NIghthawk is making a good looking product with good sights,I don't think they have that magic Vang back boring and comp system. So forget comparing the patterns, they are better, way better across the board.
too bad the don't make a bead sighted version - i'd be all over that.
you don't rise to the occasion,
