    Reducing LOP?

This is my remington 870 HD

I'm thinking the 12 LOP hogue is a little to short and I want to reduce the LOP to maybe 13 or 13.5 . The LOP is measured from the beginning of stock to the butt right? Is there anyway I could cut this one down possibly? Not wanting to spend big bucks just want it to be short enough for the lady and a little easier to handle in a HD situation as I'm only 5'7 my self.

Get the hogue youth stock...it's not too short. I'm 6'0" and my g/f is 5'0" and we both shoot it just fine.

My girlfriend is 5'4" I read about a lot of people having to adjust their grip because they were busting their noses with the 12 LOP stock. I just don't want to get it and it be way to short.

LOP is from the trigger face to the butt plate/pad. If this the original stock, you might want to get a replacement instead. The hogue stock has a nice soft pad and a very grippy feel. It's a good idea to shorten the stock for your girl because a "too long" stock tend to amplify perceived recoil.

get your self a knoxx spec ops stock (the extra money for the recoil reduction is totally worth it as you can shoot 3inch magnums and have them feel like 2/3 light birdshot, perhpas less!)

My buddy has a remingotn 870 20 guage it came with the knoxx stock from the factory and we including my girl didn't really like it that much. A shorter LOP stock is in order. The only thing I am concerned about with the hogue is having to adjust my grip like I'm shooting with a damn MMG or something so my thumb doesn't bust me in the nose or mouth. I like having a wrap around the grip it makes me feel like I have more control over the gun.

Square your shoulders up to the target. That will give your nose a little more room. Adapting to a new grip is just a matter of practice. You'll be fine

I've been going through the same thing. I'm going to have my local smith cut my stock to a 13.5" LOP (face of trigger to end of the rubber butt). I will have him change out the normal rubber to a Pachymer Limbsaver rubber. It works almost as good as the Knoxx. I say this because I've shot both.

I tried the 12" LOP and its too short. Based on rifles I know 13.5" LOP works well for me and my gf. A 13.25" would also do the job.
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

I'm running a hogue reduced length stock. I'm about 5'6" and I shoot fine with it. I recently got a slip on limbsaver (small size) that adds about an inch to the LOP, still very comfortable, and no sore shoulders thanks to the limbsaver.

I think I'll get the hogue now for the forend I want to run a mesa tactical side saddle a 6 rounder. I have seen a couple pics where people have just cut off the little extra on the forend type I have to make the side saddle fix as I don't necessarily want to get a new one because I like the one I have.

FWIW, I am 6-04 and the Hogue 12 inch LOP stock works very well for me. It makes a very nice, compact package. I'm planning on putting one on my HD gun, an 870 Police, replacing the Knoxx that is on it now.

I about to order the set from brownells as we speak. What do you guys think one could get for the stock set that is on it if I sold it? It's used some scratches on it.

Sportsman's Guide was selling "factory take off" stock sets a month or so ago for like $50 or so. Those were clean to my understanding and they sold out of them pretty quickly. Throw the set on the parts for sale forum and I am sure someone will grab them up.

Theres a nut at the end of the action slide tube. You'll see that it has two notches in the side. On an 870, it will likely be recessed past the actual forend, in which case you will need a tool, or equivalent, to remove the forend.
