    870 side saddle

heys guys im the market for a side saddle for my 870 super mag, what are the better and cheaper brands out there..so far ive only seen the tac star one out there. will i need to get a different forend that wont go past the receiver housing, i was told i might, because i might not be able to rack and chamber the next round or can i just get the 4 round side saddle instead of the longer 6 shell side saddle. i found this link, what do you guys think? it seems kind of cheesy lol

Mesa Tactical makes awesome shotgun stuff. I'd go for this:

Either get a 4 shot saddle or replace your forend for the shorter models.

60 bucks eff that. I don't see how it would be better than a tacstar sidesaddle it's just a sidesaddle!

The tacstar works just fine but I'm guessing you have never seen a Mesa shell holder. Completely billet with a replaceable friction lock. If your shells start going loose you can replace the rubber and it's like new.If you tacstar goes loose you buy another.

Plus, and I'm not exaggerating, you could hit the Mesa unit with a hammer and not break it. The tacstar will break being an all plastic (shell holder) design.

Yeah I have only seen a tacstar before but I didn't figure there would be that much of a difference! Guess I will be getting a Mesa Tactical then .

Huge difference in quality. TacStar sidesaddles are plastic. They rely on the plastic for retention. If you're keeping your shells brass down like you're supposed to, your shells will be falling out after a few rounds combined with running.

The Mesa Tactical are aluminum with a very innovative retention/detent system that holds the shells in place firmly and securely.

Having tried both, I definitely choose the Mesa Tactical over the TacStar. Worth every penny.

Another vote for Mesa tactical. I had a tacstar and that thing was a huge piece of crap.

I like my Mesa Tactical, but it is not perfect. More discussion on this topic here:

True this. I download my Mesa once a month or so for a couple days. The rubber bounces right back.

I have this one on my 870. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/SHT002-1.html

Does just like it's advertised. Take out the 2 pins and replace it with the 2 screws that are included and it just bolt's onto the side of your shotgun. You WILL need to replace the fore end if you use this sidesaddle, which didn't make a difference for me since I replaced the fore end with a surefire fore end at the same time I added the saddle on.
