right now I'm almost done with my curio & relic collection and all that is left is a winchester 1897 and one other item(said item is pretty much every where, so easy to find). My question is in regards to the norico copies, I hear that the newer models are up to the standard of the original 1897's, but do they have the trigger disconnect and do they make 18" takedown models. Those two features are what's making me hold out for the winchester 1897. And yes, I'm still looking for a winchester 1897.

win 1897 question

Oh and why do i keep hearing about them over here when we can't have them shipped here. just did a search about them after posting this, doh. -
Why are you under impression that, whatever "them" is , the Norinco copy or a Winchester 1897 can't be shipped here?
The Winchester 1897 is a C&R, and unlike handguns, modern long guns (other than the SB23 "dangerous Weapons") have no "roster" restrictions and the Norinco should be good to go to ship here.

well, i came upon this website when looking for norico's after putting up this post.
and by "them" i meant norico shotguns. wasn't there some kinda restriciton made in the clinton era, and that's why we can't have cheap norico m1a's/m14Comment

I have seen a few of them at shops and gun shows. As I recall they were all solid (no take down) frames. Not sure of the disconnect. They looked like decent guns."You can't handle the truth"Comment

Semi-autos (M1A's, etc) from China can no longer be imported. There are no restrictions on pump and lever shotguns. Norinco and other Chinese companies with various names (Norinco, IAC, etc) sell a variety of double barrel, lever-action, and pump shotguns.
Here are just some of the variants for sale:

Hmmmm, THAT is curious... the only thing that comes to mind from the Clinton era is the Brady Ban... and that's long expired. I think there was a provision for the importation of military weapons.. since the 1897 was sed in WWI and WWII... I wonder if it was considered "military".well, i came upon this website when looking for norico's after putting up this post.

I'll have to check this out... it would come as quite a surprise that the Norinco's are banned. Thanks for the info.Guns only have two constant enemies; Rust & Politicians

I've got both an original Winchester Model 1897 and a Norinco copy. The original is a take-down model with a 20" cyl bore and a second 28" full choke barrel. I bought the Norinco to shoot cowboy matches and tactical courses with. The Norinco functions exactly the same as my original Winchester, however it's not a take-down. And, YES..... you can hold the trigger back and dump all seven rounds on a taget just as fast as you can pump it. Call me old fashioned, but I REALLY like the 1897. It is my shotgun of choice.

Looking at this, it looks like I'll have to find an original if I want both "take-down" and "slamfire" options on it, thanks all.Comment
