I dont know for sure about the 590a1 but on my 590 there is a threaded cap on the end of the tube. Just unscrew it and pull the spring out. -
Just unscrew the cap on the end of the magazine tube. Be careful though, it can shoot off at you with some force fairly unexpectedly. I would wear safety glasses.Offering windows & linux support for barter.

If you have the 18.5" 590A1, you'll have to unscrews the cap and then carefully pry out the mag spring retainer with a flat screwdriver or something similar. Sometimes it's a bit stubborn, but just work one side of the retainer, then the other, until it's almost out. Put your hand over the end of the tube to catch the spring when the retainer is freed. If Mossberg is still using the same cheesy spring, there actually won't be much force on it, assuming you remembered to empty the mag tube.
If you do have the crappy spring (you can tell because it will look like it was made for a 20-gauge tube and its uncompressed length will be only 5 or less inches longer than the tube), do yourself a favor and get yourself a 3-pack of Wolff springs.Comment

Yup wolff spring is what I've purchased... Thanks guys!
I'll let you know how it goes and hopefully I'll get to keep both of my eyes after this operation "Wolff spring" is over.Comment

Remove the end cap, carefully pop out the sheet metal plug, and it springs out. Even I can do this without screwing up stuff.

NOT ME!Originally posted by Killer Beewho doesn't love juggling the cartridge stop and the cartridge interupter?!
Yeah, that's the funnest part or re-assembly after field stripping...not sure if it's the getting the bolt follower to properly align up or making sure the cartridge stop and interrupter don't fall out while you get the bolt in."Ok, sign language 101. This means stay low, this means stack up, and this means I'm gonna punch your lights out if you don't shut up!"Comment

Ok so I removed the end cap and tried to remove the plug but it seems to be so thin and bends very easily... So before I continue, someone please tell me which is the best way to do this without bending the plug?Comment

Carefully is all I can say. I was able to get mine out without too much force. The only thing that is worse than an idiot, is someone who argues with one.Comment

The retaining-plug/retainer may get slightly bent when removing. Be careful not to bend the edges of the mag tube when prying out the retainer.
Some may disagree, but upon reassembly, you can omit reinstalling the retainer (especially if it gets too bent up) and just screw the mag tube cap over the spring.(former) Glock and 1911 Armorer; LEO (now retired)Comment

You could just unscrew the entire mag tube from the receiver, replace the spring and follower and screw it back on. Just be careful not to deform the soft aluminum of the tube by using the wrong tool. Ask me how I know....
When I had to then replace the mag tube, it was easy to use a large flat blade screwdriver to pry out the end cap. Just go slow and pry it out evenly.Comment

Finally, after 4 months I've installed the Wolff spring in my Mossberg 590A1!
Thanks for all the advice.Comment

Oh boy.
By the way, when I know there is a funky spring and or spring-loaded plunger or something, I wear safety glasses and put the arm in a dry-cleaning bag as I'm handling it carefully -- it adds a clear layer of minimal protection and also helps to contain parts that could easily get lost if, when, you lose control...
