I just bought a new forearm for my '79 1100 12 ga. from Remington. It doesn't look like my old one. The old one has a metal sleeve with a detent ball so the Mag cap 'clicks' when tightened down. The new one has no sleeve, I think it is for a 1187. I really like the new one. I have read that all I need to do is put an 'O' ring under the cap to keep it tight. I'm worried that without a sleeve the forearm will crack with use due to the gas ring contacting the wood. Am I overly caucus? Or is there a fix for this maybe order more parts from Remington?

Brownells sells a wave washer made just for that. It is part number 838-000-021, Remington 1100 Wave Washer. They sell for $5.95 a pack of three and you should save the other two and change them out over the years. This resloves your issue.JD McGuire, Owner
