    I found this answer online and provided the link;

    Only a few weeks ago I fired several 12-gauge 2 1/2-inch and 2 3/4-inch loads in an autoloader with a three-inch chamber, and the patterns they produced were just as uniform as those shot with three-inch shells.

        You should be able to. Or do some repeaters not feed 2.5" properly? Where are you finding 2.5" shells anyway?

          cc

          The length of the shell is measured after it is fired...2 1/2 " opens to be 2 3/4" Are you measuring unfired live rounds at 2 1/2"?

                  Rem 870, marked 2 3/4 - 3. This is a new shotgun,lite and runs real easy. 4 plus 1 in the chamber. Sounds like the short 2 1/5 shells will work?

                    Walmart shells are 2 3/4, like they say on the box. They are measured including the length folded over in the crimp.

                      they just might not chamber easily. my buddies pump action .410 is only marked for 3" but he can load and fire 2 3/4", he just needs to baby the round into the chamber. what are you doing that 2.5" 20g seems like a good idea?

You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

                        Thanks Guys for the info, I wanted to buy 2 3/4 but got 2 1/2 ( next time I will open my eyes) and now I know wallmart won't take back ammo or guns. Education can be expensive.
