    saiga 12 at 50 yrds.

Hey everybody I've been shooting my S12 at the 50 yd. range with federal 1610 fps slugs and I've been getting about a 4-6 inch group. The odd thing is I have to shoot at 11 oclock in order to hit the bullseye area. Using stock iron sights .....did this also with an eotech 511. Could it be the recoil making me pull it? shooting off a bench with sandbags. Nothing like seeing big holes on my shoot n c compared to everybodys rifle holes at the range. Has anybody else have a range report at 50 with slugs? Also whats a good optic to use. Could it be a slug does not fly as flat as a ballistic rifle round? wish i didn't have to compensate for my shots.

Does everyone <EDIT> have to </EDIT> shoot at 11 o clock with it? May be a velocity issue, if you are sure the sights are spot on. Also, try a dry fire and see if you catch yourself doing anything funny...

Might try it at 25 yards and see where it goes, too.

Switch brands of ammo. Quick fix most of the time.

ok i'll try the ammo swap....hope its just the federal ammo. I swore I shot winchester slugs and it was the same. my sights are fixed. I always had to shoot off to hit center since I got my s12 i need to have someone else shoot it just to see if its just me.

Fixed sighted guns will require either "holding off" to compensate for the difference in POA and POI. A compentent gunsmith can also "bend" the barrel to correct the issue.

But with any luck it's the ammo (fingers crossed for ya) It just donned on me, you using Federal slugs, okay are they rifled or saboted. And are you resting the barrel on anything when you are testing loads? Any pressure on the barrel will cause rounds to deviate. If you're testing off hand, standing, try benching the gun on the forend over sandbags or like I do over my shooting bag.

I'm resting the quadrail on the sandbags...nothing on the barrel. I'm using rifled slugs. Even when I'm shooting at 25yds. standing up I still have to compensate.

Ammo, switch the ammo and try many brands, including some tactical stuff if you can find it.

if you have a CHAOS rail, there is a windage adjustment on the underside of the rail to bring the rail to zero.

You can drift the rear sight a little bit.

All you need is a set of adjustable sights......Like Mossberg man said, fixed sights are seldom right on. no matter what the firearm. Different ammo might make it better (or worse) The best sights have long sighting radius and adjustable......Like the Grand or a "peep " sight mounted on the receiver. Barrel Bending? Pretty extreme solution.

Id just like to add that there was a recent editorial (reprinted I think) in Swat magazine about buckshot and slug groups out of an S12.
Remington stuff did the best, Winchester was slightly more spread, and
Federal stuff was by far the worst for slug and buckshot groups..
something like 1.6" slug groups for Remington vs. 4-6" groups for Federal
at 50 yards I think.. I forget the exact numbers. The artical mentioned something about Reminton slugs being bigger, tighter clearance in the barrel.
I hate to be vague but Im moving and have no idea where my magazines are stashed at the moment... hope that helps... your results may vary of course..
As for my experience.. Ive only shot Federal slugs out of my S12 with Krebs sights at ranges of less than 20 yards just to blow stuff up. Not sure about groupings but Ive hit everything Ive aimed at.

Uongkevin, let us know how it goes. If the windage is corrected and your high at 50, you may be right on at 100 :-) Which isn't all that bad.....

If your aimming 11 high, could be trigger control too. Maybe your slightly jerking the trigger. Try some blanks and have some one else load the mag for you. Have them observe you when you shoot, you can tell If it's the ammo, gun or tigger control. But ammo will help shrink groups, trigger control will help poi/poa.
