        full

"full" means it has a built-in full choke. Full is the tightest standard choke size and give give tighter patterns than cylinder (or improved cylinder, modified, etc.). Steel shot cannot be shot out of full chokes and some other non-toxic cannot either (you have to check by maker). A full choke would make skeet very difficult, most skeet shooters shoot "skeet" choke which is the next step down from cylinder. Also skeet guns are usually short barreled. But you could use it for trap and hunting. If you're not familiar with how big a pattern it will make, shoot some paper at various ranges. If you can't hit anything in the air, then try for a different barrel. Most modern guns have chokes you can change, but this one has the choke built into the barrel. What gauge is your 37? They came in several.

My Browning BPS is a copy of the 37 design. They are solid pumps but slightly on the heavy side.

its a 12 gauge. so the choke "adjusts" the pattern? whats the difference between skeet and trap?

Yes, a choke alters the density of the shot pattern by shaping the wad on exit. Skeet and trap are different games that both use clay pigeons. 5 stand and sporting clays are 2 other games as well. Wikipedia has good articles on these basic topics.

first off a bps is similar not by no means the same design the ithaca 37 is called the featherweight for a reason it is an amazing feeling gun if i had a 26" mod barrel for it i would retire all my 870's and the other non toxics i was refering to are like bismuth and heavy shot and the like i know bismuth is most likely the only one recomeded to be shoot in our barrels though. the gun makes a great close up yote gun with copper plated bb's and it does pretty well with turkey loads too pheasant and other upland came are ok as long as you let them get out a bit and as far as trap and skeet it makes a great trap gun but a terrible skeet gun and it does alright shooting sporting clays you just need to figure out how she shoots and you will do just fine.. you have and amazing piece of history and one of john brownings finer designs make sure to have fun

ok i did a little reading and i think i understand why a full choke is not optimal for skeet. a full choke keeps the pellets together in a tighter pattern thereby making it harder to hit a little piece of plastic flying through the air.
i going to have to do some more reading, and maybe buy a shotgun better suited to what i need. all things considered, i am thrilled to have received this beautiful gun, i just need to find the best application for it. thank you for all your advice. goodnight.

You would only need lead if you're hunting waterfowl or in an area designated as such (such as Fort Hunter Ligget). There might be some brands of soft non-toxic out there that would work (look up Bismuth perhaps). Any lead birdshot/ target loads should be fine. Don't shoot sabot slugs (most "rifled" slugs should be ok since they were designed to work through any choke, although I wouldn't risk it out of a full if I were you) I'm not sure about large buckshot with a full choke. Also you will want to check the chamber length (maybe a gunsmith if you don't know how), but it is probably 2 3/4". Do not shoot any shells longer than the chamber length.

Wow, someone needs to learn how to use punctuation and basic grammar to make their English readable. And correct, the BPS is not exactly the same design, just similar.

                            Now, about chokes, non-toxic 12 gauge loads and Ithaca 37s . . .
