    "stagecoach" shotgun? I want one...

    Hey Fellow C'gunners!

    So here is my question....

    Think of the movie- Tombstone.

Doc Holiday- the street howitzer he carries. I think Ive seen it as a "stagecoach" shotgun? Its a side-by-side barrel that breaks in half to re-load? I know it looks really nice and just the nostalgia of it...I want one......

I also want a Ithica type shotgun....also called "riot" shotguns?

Any ideas where I can get one? How much? what specifics to look for? My budget is no more than $300 and is it realistic to get one at this price. I was at a surplus store in South Lake Tahoe (Nevada side) and the burly older guy behind the counter had one. Rusted, looked real old, and he said it was an antique and was asking $1500 for it.

Pictures and advice would be great for either shotgun.

Big5 routinely has the coach style shotguns on sale for around your price. I don't know what brand they are off the top of my head, so I cannot comment on their quality.

The Big 5 and Turners specials are Chinese-made or brazilian-made coach guns, and are of "eh" quality. They are certainly a good deal in the $300-400 range though.

Remington has one that's made in Russia that's quite a bit nicer than the Chinese or Brazilian ones, and not a whole lot more expensive being around $500'ish

CZ makes the absolute nicest one I've seen though, but it's about $850. Worth every penny in my opinion.

Its true sxs shotguns can run the spectrum on price. The Stoeger shotguns are fairly decent for the price point. All depends what you want them for and how much use you'll actually put to it. Has anyone else seen the tactical sxs Turners is selling?

Have your local dealer call Tripp at RSR. Get the shotgun with the dogs head hammers. They might be called dogs ear hammers. It seems to be the best of the bunch. It's going to be a bit more than 300 but it's steel and wood. After 2 shots its one hellava bat.

I've seen them at Big 5 and Turners as well, around the $340ish range I think. I'd definitely like to have one as well.

I have a TTN Reproduction of the Colt 1878 Coach Gun. It is a SxS 12ga. 20" bbls. with external rebounding mule ear hammers, 3" chambers and cylinder bore. The barrels are straight and it patterns well.

It was recommended to me by a friend that does cowboy shooting. So far it has held up really well. The fit and finish is excellent. While it is chinese in origin, it is the best clone I've found. I've never seen anyone who owns one complain about them. Several importers offer them. Mine came via EMF. I think I paid around $450.00 OTD.

Where in Northern California are you? I have seen a few under $300 on the used racks of some local stores.

Model 37 is the old Ithaca Pump. They were used extensively by LE many years ago. They were generally replaced by Remington 870 and Mossberg.

I had a Stoeger coach gun a number of years ago, hammerless. It was tight, good quality and a fine shooter. If I had to do it again, I'd go to one with exposed hammers.

The examples of the Chinese made gun that Big 5 has been carrying are okay, but they aren't to the quality of the Stoeger I used to have, nor the Russian made guns that Remington has been bringing in that I've seen a couple of.
