Is there a long barrel that will fit on the Mossberg 590? I'd like to get out and try shooting skeet or trap and from the few questions I've asked sporters, it seems like the stock barrel isn't "ideal". Found a 24" online, but I'm wondering about other options. Anyone have any ideas?

Long barrel on Moss 590?

An 835 barrel will fit on the 6 round 590A1 model, but you will only be able to shoot 2-3/4" and 3" shells out of it. I have not seen any long barrels that will fit on the 9 round version of the 590."The 340PD is nothing but 12 ounces of pure titanium & scandium evil

A gunsmith told me that a 500 barrel can be modified using the rings from the 590 barrel to make a compatible barrel. A cheaper solution might be to swap magazine tubes and get a 500 barrel. I may do this when I have the funds.Comment

I might be cheaper still to simply pick up a 500 Combo on sale at Big 5 that to go to that extent of gunsmithing on a long tube 590.
FWIW, I recently bought a 24 inch, vent rib, ported with three choke tubes provided (Full, Modified, IC) barrel for my 500. Got it for $159 from Cabelas. Midway has the same barrel for $169, link below for info.
Midway stocks a 20 inch with rib and three choke tubes for $169. This is the shortest sporting barrel with tubes that Mossberg makes. Some trap and skeet clubs, such as the one I shoot at, won't let you use 18 or 22 inch barrels.

I don't think any gunsmithing would be needed to just screw off the magazine tube and replace it with a 500 one, and swap barrels.Comment

My point was to the notion of a gunsmith telling you to modify a barrel.
But considering the aluminum receiver and the effort and / or heat you need to apply (usually) to get the mag tube out, thats still a lot more work than I think it's worth when the risk of permanently damaging the receiver is folded in.
But that's just me... the Mossberg Combo is $279 at Big 5 again this week.

The tube on my Mossberg unscrews quite easily. I discovered this by accident the other day. I had heard that it did not come off without tools, so I had never even tried it before.Comment
