remington 870 express tactical grey question

im interested in getting the remington 870 express tactical grey. i have read on some places and heard that the powder coat finish comes off easily and is not durable. does anybody have any experience with it?

happened to me, i also read another thread about it on glock talk, i sent it to Remington about a month ago and haven't heard anything from them. I dont know if they r going to re-coat it or replace it but i have to mention that i bought it in august so it might have been a problem with just the earlier models.

You should consider the upgraded model of the express tactical. It comes with an XS rail + Ghost ring sights for like 50 more bucks then the grey. Oh btw, good luck finding one. If you really want it i can give you some pointers.

Simple. Call every dealer in your area and ask for a special order. (most of them will tell you it's on backorder.) If that's the case you will have to call state to state. Try calling the states w/ no sales tax and loose gun laws.

The grey powder coat finish isn't very durable. There is a nice parkerized finish underneath and you can strip the grey finish off pretty easy. I wouldn't purchase one unless it's deal too good too pass up.

damn, looks like im going to have to hunt down one of the tactical with the rail instead....
im very interested in those models because of the tactical screw in chokes. is there any other shotgun that has that feature other than the remington atacs desert camo ones? maybe another brand?

They must have cheaped out on the paint or prep because I have an earlier 2005-ish variant of the dull color painted ones and it is the best finish ever for a simple paint and primer blend. They just tint grey primer and spray it over the bead blasted blue finish the standard one comes with. The bead blasted blue is known to rust if you don't soak it in oil, but the paint over that really works..Mines' been rain on and everything with no issues. The coating is matte finish anyhow and sucks up cleaning oil so it is impervious to normal exposure and i have found it to be really scratch resistant too.

must be a bad batch or they scrimped on some cost somewhere.

mike100, so you're saying i should soak it with oil after i get it? what about the finish chipping off?
