Mossberg needs a new front sight, any suggestions.

Took the little gold bead off the front of my Mossberg shotgun and lost it.
Now I am looking at front sights in the midway catalog and thinking about one of the HiVise sights. I dont know what the thread size of anything is on the barrel, but might as well get something cool and tactical.
Just for the record, I dont want anything that needs a gunsmith to install, just something I can screw into the existing hole.
Any suggestions?

The Mossberg web site has a discontinued fiber-optic front sight for $3.00 if it is a ribbed barrel. Just go to the main page and look for the "Smoking Deals" halfway down the page.

I would get a Meprolight Tritium Bead and test it in different lighting conditions to see if I might want to paint the bead face white. You can try white out or taping some white paper to the bead face to see if you like it.

FYI, you may need to shim the bead with a washer, some people have reported the threads being off by 1/2 turn or 90 degrees, don't force the bead to turn past the threads you will strip the threads and end up gluing it in place.

Change of plans, I re read the post by GVOllie and visited the Mossberg site and found a truglo front sight for 5 bucks!
(the 3 dollar one was for ribbed barrels, but they had a 5 dollar one that would fit any Mossberg.)

A quick question for anyone who replaced the bead sight with an aftermarket. That is, the post of the new sight extends into the barrel by quite a bit when installed (I used red locktite to keep it in place for the 90 degree thing) and would this create a dangerous situation for rifled slugs? Should I file it down or put in a washer? Any help would be AWESOME.

It wasn't a problem per say, but be ready to lose the new sight when you shoot them. I know I did.
