12 Gauge BB Rounds for HD?

I went to a gun store today and asked for a home defense load. The guy working there said they were all out of Buck but a BB load would work well. He said they used it to kill coyotes and it's a fairly common home defense load. Anyone wanna weigh in?

BB or T would be the smallest I would consider for HD and over penetration would be less of an issue. Will still go through drywall but will be stopped by fascia brick.

What does BB actually mean? I've never even heard of it. Its technically a birdshot load?

And you know this how? And by works I assume you're speaking of effectiveness on human predators, not functioning your SG. Unless you've stopped an angry charging 200 pound Russian Boar or dropped a felon with this ammo, I don't know how you'd know it really works. Coyotes don't count.

And while better than 7.5 or #8 shot, I do not want to willingly trust my or my family's well being to bb's unless it was the only thing available. 0, 00 or 000 buck is my choice. In your home, know your fields of fire. There are no-shoot areas in my home, I know where they are, I also know how to alter my angle of fire to eliminate danger to occupants within the danger zones too.

I shot some Remmy HD bb stuff and it spread out pretty good at 10 yards (approximately 14" pattern) I'm concerned that the little bb's will not have enough energy to penetrate deep enough or cause enough disruption to incapacitate as fast as 00 buck does. I've witnessed more than a few GSW victims, the full load buckshot recipents did not usually get transported by ambulance.

#4 buck or larger is good for hd.#4 buck has 27 6mm balls hitting you at about 1300 fps.Mix that with 00,1,2,or #3 buck and that is a deadly combo.

"BB" refers to the size of the pellets. From what I remember, they are a little bit bigger than real BB's (.177).

"BB" shot is the largest of the bird shots. Anything bigger is considered buck shot.

BB will be just fine for HD purposes.

Birdshot is for birds. Buckshot doesn't always stop bad guys, why deliberately choose a less effective round? Don't bother using the wall overpenetration concept as justification, birdshot will penetrate at least one drywall/stud construction wall.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I have birdshots in my SG cuz I live in a condo and I really like my good neighbor's 5 year old boy whose room happens to be next to my bedroom wall. I will shoot to end the threat not just to kill. If the BG moves again after one birdshot, then there are 5 more shells in my magazine tube.

Yes my magazine tube can hold more than just one shell.
