Hi, I might get a shotgun soon and want to know your guys opinion. Im debating over getting 6 or 9 shot 590a1. Its going to be mostly for zombies and home defense. I like the look of a 18inch barrel but feel safer knowing that I am capable of shooting 9 shots. For the people who has 20inch barrel does it make a big difference maneuvering around the hallways?

For inside, shorter is better, which is why many departments use 14" and even 12" barrels on Entry weapons.
Will 2" make a big difference? It does if the the last inch of the barrel hits a wall as you are trying to turn around and opose a threat in your home.JD McGuire, Owner

In an interior environment, shorter is better. As above... if I could lawfully have a 14 inch barrel for HD on a pump, I'd consider giving up a round or two as a fair trade. Longer, plus more shells = more weight.
An 18 inch barrel with a two shot mag extension on an 870, or a five shot tube on a 500 is plenty good enough to keep you in the fight should you have to in your home or business. With a butt cuff or sidesaddle holding six more rounds you should be more than sufficiently armed for the "average" HD encounter.
If you have to fight outdoors, say in a military or LEO role, that's another story entirely and you'd set a shotgun up differently.

Standard 6 round mag will give you the option of cheap, standard replacement barrels. Your barrel options are limited by manufactured supply. Multi purpose is a good thing. Down the road, you might want more than a smoothbore house gun.

There are techniques for CQB that will accommodate longer barrels. Nobody ever lost a fight because the had too much ammo in their gun, but many have lost because they have run out. Capacity never hurts, you just have to know how to adjust for the length.
Cops have short barrels so they can get them out of their cars easier, not necessarily for CQB indoors.
