982 Forend

I've read that the 870 forends fit the 982's with a little work and force due to the bigger tube. Does anyone know if it the size difference is enough to make the forend too loose to put back on an 870 later? This is of course without any dremel/grinding work to the forend to make it fit the 982. I wanted to change the one on my 982 but would like in the future to put it back onto an 870. Thanks in advance

Don't know, however, I do know this. The forend is critical to the smooth operation of a pump shotgun. A sloppy forend can cause damage to your action bars over time because as the forend slips and turns you tend to over tourge the action bars. This ends up causing them to bind and bending then beyond effective use.

With this stated, is modifying a part you can get for a few bucks worth possible damage to your weapon?

If you currently have a 982 and an 870, why don't you try the 982 forend on you 870 to see how it fits?

The 870 forend will go on the 982 with a bit of elbow grease(muscle) or a method that has been mentioned a few times is get a socket the same size as the forend tube and tap it in.. It will not hurt the forend and will go back on your 870 without any problems... Hope that answers your question..
