I currently have an older model 870 and live in California. I was wondering if it is legal for me to purchase a magazine extension tube to increase my ammo from 2+1 to either 9+1 on 10+1. would this be legal or no.

Remington 870 question

Yep, perfectly legal. It's a pump-gun, so there are very few restrictions on what you can legally do with it. You can have a pistol grip, folding stock, forward grip, etc.------------------------------------------------------------
iTrader protip: When I buy something from you and I immediately pay, then my part is done. That's all I have to do. You can leave me iTrader feedback and go on with your life. When I get the item, I will leave you iTrader feedback, assuming you've already done your part. See how that works? -
Although it's legal to get the max capacity as required by law, your shotgun has to have a 30" long barrel to accomodate the extra rounds. That'll be heavy and cumbersome for a tactical shot gun, dont you think?
By the way, I'm not sure about a detachable mag for shotguns.sigpic

BTW, if your 870 can only hold 2+1, that means it has a magazine plug in it to reduce capacity. The plug is required for hunting game with a shotgun but if you are not using it to hunt, you can remove the plug and that will increase the capacity to 4+1."All bad precedents began as justifiable measures." WRONG!!! I have an 870 with 10+1 set-up and it's about a 1/4" longer than the original 26" barrel.Although it's legal to get the max capacity as required by law, your shotgun has to have a 30" long barrel to accomodate the extra rounds. Knoxx used to make a detachable magazine set-up for 870's and Mossburgs. They're out of production, but you still see them on some of the gun auctions.sigpicComment

My approximate calculation is based on a 3" shell. Unless you want the mag tube to extend farther than the barrel. I think that'll look like a joke.

I've got an 870 and I'm confident I can solve any problem with 5 rounds of double 00. whose gonna stick around after you let even one of those babies off?Comment

"APPROXIMATE" is the key word here. Like I said, I actually own an 870 with a 26" barrel that is equiped with a 10-rd tube extension. The magazine tube only extends beyond the end of the barrel by about 1/4" and looks just fine.sigpicComment
