IIRC:
870 Competition Trap and 870 Special Field barrels will not fit on the Wingmaster.
Express barrels will, but lack the detent to keep the magazine cap secured. Some have the hole drilled for installation of the detent, some don't. Drilling that hole is a major PITA. 870 Expresses use a grooved magazine spring follower with teeth on the front, combined with pressed lugs in the magazine tube to keep the magazine cap from turning off.
Other than those exceptions, I think any 870 barrel will work on your Wingmaster. I have a vintage Wingmaster with an Express 18" barrel, all I had to do was install the detent. Remind your friend that even if the barrel he buys is chambered for 3" shells, he can only use what the receiver is set up for - so if he has a 2 3/4" shotgun, he can only use 2 3/4" shells, even if he has a Magnum barrel installed.
Try AI&P Tactical, Cabela's, Corson's Barrels, TJ General Store - there are tons of 870 barrels out there; a little comparison shopping will find your friend a good barrel at a good price.Last edited by Grumpyoldretiredcop; 01-18-2010, 11:41 AM.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy! -
thanks for the info !Comment
