Winchester Model 97 Trench Gun

I've always loved the looks of the Winchester Model 97 Trench Gun. I don't have anywhere near the $4k it would take to get a real one and don't want to buy one by Norinco as it just feels wrong.

Do I have any other options? Is there a less expensive Winchester I could convert easily?

Any help would be appreciated.

About once every year, I find that there is someone trying to sell a 1897 winchester for under $500. The problem that i find is that someone ALWAYS gets it before me or is too far away.

So my suggestion to you is make this place your second home and watch the private firearms and sale like a hawk. And hope that I don't grab it before you do.

in my area they are fairly common, i got one when i was 18 and i have the chance to get more like3 or 4 times a year at 350-500, i live around the bay area i often see them at Vallejo gun show and at guns fishin and other stuff in vacaville, but haven't seen any lately, if i do i will send you a pm!

Don't know about the norinco availability, but I did grab a nice 97 off of gun broker last year. It wasn't an original trench gun and it was re-blued but I got it for about $300. It was tight and I love the stupid thing.

If you have a C&R, gunbroker can be your friend.

Original 97's have come down. The cowboy action shooters drove up the prices a while ago but I have seen a lot of serviceable guns, usually with cut barrels, for 250-350. We sold one a few months ago for 400.00 and though that we got good money for it. Guns with uncut barrels are more expensive. I saw some at J&G gunsmithing (Granite Bay) a few weeks ago for that.
