    Savage 745 Question

I have an old Savage 745 auto loader. It looks similar to a Browning A5.

I haven't put a shell through this gun for almost 20 years. At that time it functioned fine. I recently took it apart, cleaned and lubed it. This morning, I took it out for a pheasant hunt.

This morning it had a problem. After firing the first shell, the second shell would load but not fire. If I manually cycled the next round into the chamber, it would fire fine.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I'm not familiar with your gun but are you certain you reassembled it properly when you cleaned it.
Had a similar problem with my 1100 at one time. There was a disc that I had inserted backwards when I cleaned it. It would eject but not chamber a load properly. When I put the gun back together properly there was no problem.
