    Another dumb shotgun question

My 870 express came with a modified choke. I want to get a full and an IC too, but I didn't know if all brands will fit it or not. Do I have to get Rem chokes or are they all good? Thanks

no, not all brands will fit. So you would need to get Rem chokes, or rem-compatible chokes.

as an example, look at the specs on this page, http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=2...NK_CHOKE_TUBES

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

^ what he said. They must be compatible with Remmies and should say so on the packaging.

What will you be hunting? Distance matters.

Well that's why I would like one of each. A full for duck and/or goose. My mod for smaller mid-range game. And then an IC for all the close stuff and potentially for home defense.

Carlson or Rem chokes will work just fine........Don't fall for the 65.00 hype.

                What's 65.00 hype? Chokes costing $65?

There are chokes costing way more than $65 truth be told. Ported, titanium, etc.

You might try Comp 'n Choke and I believe Kicks or try a Google search.

Another question. What's the reason for having extended chokes?

Extended chokes? You mean full and extra full? Just tighter pattern more distance..

No, an extended choke is a physically longer choke, ~.5" to ~2" longer. Allows for you to further refine shot patterns.

It makes them easier to change, that's all.

Try the remchokes and pattern your gun so you know how and where it shoots.
