    Mossberg 500 magazine question

I have a brand new Mossberg 500 that I took to the range yesterday. After a couple rounds, I noticed that once in a while, the round in the magazine would fly out and bounce along the ground when the shotgun was fired.

The recoil from the shot dislodges the retention clip from the brass casing and the round simply falls out. Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it just that I haven't completely disassembled and cleaned it yet? Or is this a common problem with the 500s?

the spring may be too stiff and its pressing against the shells and with the shotgun going off it may jar them too much?

Why would the spring be too tight? Because it's new?

I would start with a detail strip and clean.
        It's not too hard.
There should be two shell catches...one holds the rounds in the mag while a round is being fed in.
Sounds like this one may be sticking.

sounds like some goop is in the gun making it sticky like ojisan said. You should strip it down, clean it super good, lube it up and then report back.

Use a good areosol cleaner and blow out the area around the magazine follower and the shell stop. I suspect some debris under the shell stop causing the shell to jump and fall out of the magazine. Check to see how much tension is on it. Should be fairly firm to depress.
