    Mossberg 590A1 worth the money?

In comparison to the 500 and 590, is the 590A1 worth the extra dough?

I'm happy. I always thought the "cool factor" and the "difficult to find" made it worth it for me.

590 A1 has thicker barrel, bayonet lug, and parkerized finish.

        That might justify extra $$.

If you want a shotgun already setup for combat/HD with very minimum modification, then yes.

Any customizing that you add to the 500 or the 590 will make them cost just as much as the 590A1.

A bayonet lug on a pump shotgun! 'nuff said! Anyway, I have two of them and just bought my third. They are tough as nails. Very durable. They take a beating and keep on running.

Also, get the Vang Comp system (www.vangcomp.com). It makes a good thing even better.

                +1 to Dameron762

But look into the package from Aimpro in Colorado Springs: goes a little further than the above mentioned VangComp. Mesa Tactical make a recoil stock that makes 12g slug recoil feel like nothing.

I have had a 590 since 1988 and the thing is bullet-proof. No issues ever. It is a great SG and the A1 is even better!! Do it and don't look back!!

Mainly home defense. I know, it's probably overkill, but I want something that's virtually indestructable. I want ghost ring sights and a parkerized finish, too, a shotgun that's nice right out of the box that I won't feel compelled to mod down the road..

If you want GR sights and park like you said, then there really isn't a better deal.

18" or 20" is the only question left.

go with a 18" barrel, mag extention, and a Hogue 12" LOP stock and call it a day.

Just know that the A1 barrel will be overkill for you and you're just carrying around uneccesary weight. I'd go with a Mossberg 590.

get a regular HD 500. With the extra 100$ youll save go get a bunch of ammo for it. Ive had my mossberg 500 for a long time. one of them is a dedicated HD and ive shot countless rounds out of it. its about 15 years old and its never had any problems. The 590 is cool. just a little more heavy duty due to the thicker barrel. If you get the 590 youll get it for the "cool" factor but its not gonna do anythign better than the regular mossberg 500.

It will hold more shells and come with a cool heat sheild.
