A few shotgun questions.

Hello everyone. I have only used a shotgun on 2 different occasions. One was to do some "manual" trap shooting on BLM land and the other was shooting clays. I eventually want to get into a 3 gun competition but I am guessing that I will need a different shotgun for that style of shooting as well. So here go my questions.

1. Should I get a semi, over under, or a pump for Clays and traps?
2. Should I get a semi, over under, or a pump for a 3 gun competition?
3. What length of barrel should I be using for Clays and traps?
4. Is an 18" barrel adequate for a 3 gun competition?
5. Are Turkish shotguns any good and or hold their value?

I would say O/U. You can throw different chokes in different barrels

Semi Auto all the way

I would go 28in

4. Is an 18" barrel adequate for a 3 gun competition?
It would work, but it's kinda short.

5. Are Turkish shotguns any good and or hold their value?
Turkish make guns? jk Dehan makes some nice OU and Hatsan are IMO junk. Regarding value, ehhh nothing that I've seen would make them more desirable than say a Mossberg or Remington

All in all If you're looking for one gun for all I would suggest a Remington 1100 with some different barrels.

If you want to shoot trap for fun with your friends there are many good shotguns. If you want to shoot trap and get good scores then a Browning BT99 30, 32 or 34" barrel is by far the best gun for the money. This is a single shot shotgun and only good for Trap Plan on $1500.00 to $2000.00

A Browning XT O/U would be another great gun for trap plus you can shoot Continential, Bunker, Doubles. $2500.00 to 3k. Is a pretty good guess.

The shotgun for 3 gun is a Benelli M2 21" or 24". The 21" is better choice for my money. The Benelli will be around $1250.00 an extra barrel I'm guessing $450.00 to $500.00. I haven't priced barrels so I could be way off.

If it were me I'd get a Benelli M2 with a 28" and a 21" barrel and you'll be gtg.
Won't be cheap, but it will be the best for 3 gun, real good for Skeet and Sporting Clays with a 28" barrel. It will do ok for trap.

For Clay games other than trap a O/U is the best gun. $2k to 3k for a real good shotgun.

You can have the pistol grip fixed stock configuration (as no non-PG collapsing stock variation exists to my knowledge).

922(r) is the only potential issue. To upgrade to 7 round capacity you need 10 or less foreign parts, the gun has 13...so you need to replace the mag tube (1 part), follower (1 part), and handguard (1 part) with US made versions to be legal as per the feds. Obviously this is not a problem if you don't care about having more that a 5 + 2 capacity.

If you want a do it all shotgun I would not recommend the M4...M1 or M2 is probably better as they are more versatile...also cheaper by a few hundred bones. Don't get me wrong, the M4 is a brilliant gun and you will probably love it but for what you want the gun for it is probably not ideal.

my dad once told me that you can make homemade shotgun slugs by using cheap birdshot and make small punctures about 1/2 inch each with an exacto knife around the base of the wad and above the powder on the shell. 1/2 inch slash, 1/4 inch normal. i wouldnt try this in any type of choked barrel! only non-bore! i would try it if i didnt have access to real slugs though. has anyone else tried this? :clink
