    870 Tactical help needed.

Well, I just picked up an 870 ghost ring tactical, and finally got an opportunity to shoot it. My first time out, I bought some of the Winchester Universal #8 trap shot bulk from walmart. Went out side, loaded 2 rounds in the tube, shot, and the slide is completely jammed up / wont cycle. Once I got the gun cleared after the first shot, I thought it might have been a bad hull, so i try another. Same thing. For prosperities sake, I ran a remington slugger through it, and a winchester buck shot round (both high base 2 3/4 shells), and everything worked great. Is this normal for pump guns to not like certain ammo (for shotguns all i've ever run is breach loaders)? Is there anything I can do to let my gun run this ammo, or do I have a 100 shells to give away now? Thanks,

Also, just for clarities sake, after the first shot, the slide will not move at all. It is holding in the normal position it would be in if cocked

Have you contacted Remington about the problem? If you buttstroke the ground while pulling on the fore-end will it break loose? Two problems may be happening, rough chamber. Two, bad ammo.

I wrapped some 00 steel wool around a brass brush, chucked up a section of rod in my cordless drill and added some Flitz and polished the chamber, no more sticky rounds (didn't work on the SPX930).

There is nothing wrong with the weapon. It is the ammo. The Winchester Universal is junK. You can also help the weapon by breaking it in. Go to www.aiptactical.com and under the customer service link there is a link to "Breaking in the 870". Follow that. You can also do this. Get a 3/8th inch wooden dowl and a pad of medium steel wool. Stretch the pad over the end of the dowl and tape it off. It will look like a large Q-tip. Put that in your drill and incert the end into the chamber and spin it around on high speed to polish your chamber out. If you look at the how to Video on the same web site "Tube Extension Kit" you will see what the rig will look like.

Do the above and break the weapon in. It will smooth out after some trigger time. Oh, and use very, very, very small drops of oil on the out side of the action bars during the break in. If there are any issues call me for advise to the number on the web page.

I don't know how your GRS were attached, or wether or not they are factory installed, so this may or may not be an issue, but have you checked inside the receiver to make certain than none of the new devices or its attaching hardware are interfering with smooth operation of the internals?

I believe it's the ammo. All the high base shells i ran worked great, just these winchesters. When I looked at the hulls once the were ejected, the metal base was visibly expanded, and there was around a 1/32" gap (or more) between the plastic and base. All things are pointing to crap ammo at this point
