    R3 pad discontinued

Sad news from Remington. R3 pads are being discontinued, or so says the Customer Service Rep at Remington. However, since these were made for Remington by Simms they are merely Limbsaver pads so we can still get this great pad from Limbsaver. The only thing missing will be the Remington Logo. What Remington is replacing them with is the Supercell. I asked how they can expect a $10 pad to replace the R3 and I was told that since Remington had to pay Simms for the R3 and since Remington manufactures the Supercell, the Supercells cost Remington less. I commented that I have shot both and the R3 is superior and that got me the company line answer. So Remington has again put their profit over quality. I will have to figure out a way to feature the Limb saver on my custom Remingtons and keep the cost down.

That's sad. It was night and day between my old 870 and my 870P with the R3. Are they really making that much more money per gun by using the Supercell?

      Limbsaver pads are like magic.

I just got a new 700 mountain stock in today that I got a client. It is listed as having the R3 pad. It had a Super Cell pad on it... Not happy about this and he will not be either. So, I now know the Remington Customer Service Rep was correct in what he told me.

It does not eat the recoil my R3 does, it seems like it would tare more easily if I catch it on somthing. And most important. I don't trust the new things coming out from that company. The were bought out three years ago and they have been putting some mess out there. The PC coating is an example of the worst finish I have evey seem on a weapon.... with that said, we have a perfect pad, the R3. They design their own and stop paying Sims for the R3 and start selling their pad for $10. So you want me to believe that they came up with a $10 pad that is better then the $35 Sims pad. If their pad was better they would be selling it for $35 not $10... but that is just some food for thought as I have shot both and the R3 is the better pad. If the Super cell feels better to you, use it. We will know in a year or so how well they stand up. All my 870's will be around long after I am gone, don't think that pad will.

Furthermore, I tried, but returned, a new Remington SuperCell recoil pad. It was apparently boxed and made for a Remington synthetic stock, but Remington must have made a design change to its synthetic stocks (as previously mentioned in another post). The new synthetic stock recoil pad is designed for a stock which has a slight recess for the pad to fit into whereas my older Remington synthetic stocks don't have these recesses.

I had a rangemaster install some thinner grind-to-fit pads from another manufacturer which are working out fine for me.

I don't use "DATA" I use my old tired torn shoulder and it says the R3 works better. I don't make this up. I have been shooting these weapons for over 40 years and I know 12 ga recoil. Hearsay is when someone tells you I said somthing. I told you so it is not hearsay. I am not upset that the pad cost less. I am smart enough to know that if that Corporation made a pad that was better or equal to one of the leading pads on the market it would sell for Market value and not a thrid of market value. It is called Business 101. They have not only cut cost but have cut quality and put the word "Super" on it and people are believing the Marketing hype. I deal in fact and a NO **** approch in the way I do business. A review of my web site will prove this. I gave a "No ****ter" on this subject based on personal use and a common sence view from inside the firarms business. He who has ears, let him hear.
