    Mossberg Forend Help

So I have a Mossberg 500A from Big 5 that I am attempting to turn into a tactical shotgun. I purchased a new action slide assmebly in a 6 5/8" along with a new tube nut so that I could retrofit a Mako picatinny forend onto the shotgun.

The problem is that the tube assembly seems a bit too short for the forend. I am unable to thread the tube nut onto the slide as it isn't long enough to expose the tube's threads.

Mossberg also sells a 7 5/8" tube assembly at the time I was pretty certain that I needed the 6 5/8" but as it appears that I was wrong. The tube nut is supposed to thread on the OPPOSITE side of the action assembly to properly secure the forend correct? Thus I should exchange this 6 5/8" tube for a 7 5/8"?

Here are some pics to help:

    Thanks guys

Hogue makes an adapter nut that can be used with the 6 3/4 assembly. Maybe it'll work for you?

Wouldn't it just be smarter to get another action assembly in the proper length? Who knows if the Hogue extended tube nut would work with a 6 5/8th" tube AND a non-Hogue (Mako/FabTech) forend.

Why dont you just cut off some of the plastic off the front of the front handgrip to reveal the threads. How much was the tube?

Yeah I guess I could remove some of the plastic, but I would rather not. I'd like to do this project right instead of having to jerry rig it.

The tube was $24 and the nut was $8.

Don't waste your time like I did. I tried it and it failed miserably. All I did was waste a perfectly good forend. Buy the nut or a new slide.

Were you attempting to put an aftermarket forend on a 500A from Big 5? If so what size action tube did you end up using? I used the 6 5/8", did you use the 7 5/8"?

I had the 6 5/8" slide. I used a dremel to open up the diameter of the forearm so I could screw the nut on. It worked, but was a pain to install and remove the nut. Not to mention, the forearm was pretty much ruined for resale (not that it was worth much). I ended up trashing the forearm and bought a pistol grip forearm that fit much better.
