over under vs. side by side

i was looking to buy a double barreled shotgun o/u or sxs.
    whats the difference first off?

and what do you guys think about the
    stoeger condor
    and the stoeger uplander

could these guns handle a 3inch steel shot?

With an o/u or Over/Under the barrels are stacked vertically, one on top of the other. With the side by side, they are set horizontally next to each other.

Sorry don't have the answers to your other questions.

Stoegers are supposed to be decent guns and on their website it says that they will take 3 inch shells. Also, most modern shotguns don't have a problem with steel shot. What are you planning on using it for?

i am going to be using it for trap and skeet and hunting of everything that is not waterfowl.
          why dual triggers?
any info on doubel barreled guns would be helpful to see if i even would want one.

It was explained to me that if you are looking to shoot skeet, trap, or hunt go with a over under. The barrels sit on the same sight plane. As for the double trigger * (look at mjsweims post). When choosing a over under you might wand to go stainless on the receiver, because of technique you hold it at this point when hunting, and a blued would have rust form from your hand.

When single triggers fail it is often in the transfer mechanism, either by not firing the second or selected barrel, or by double firing, or not firing at all. I don't know how prone Stoegers are to this. Double triggers are independent and simple.

I have seen shotguns that need a strike to the butt pad to transfer the trigger to the second barrel at times. Having a double trigger would also let you choose which chamber to fire.

Stoeger makes quality shotguns...their SxS aren't too expensive and are fun too shoot clay with.

If you are going to be using this for trap and skeet, get an over under. As far as the dual trigger, i do NOT reccomend this for the purpose you have in mind. If you ever do doubles, the last thing in the world youre going to want to try and do is switch your finger to a different trigger. How many Perazzis have you seen with two triggers? How about Ljutics? When you only have a split second to hit the second clay, fumbling with a second trigger isnt in your best interest. As far as choosing which chamber, its as easy as sliding a switch from one side to the other. Pull trigger once, first chamber goes off, pull again, bang goes number two.

I like my Stoeger Condor Supreme a lot. No failures to fire and it has held up well to abuse as a field gun.

The Supreme also has auto-ejectors and a selective trigger as well. Just more things to break, I guess.
