16 guage shells

Hey calguners has any body ever heard of a 16 gauge shotgun cause i have 200 shell i got from a neighbor but ive never seen a shotty that takes those any ideas what to use to use them.

16 ga shotguns were used a lot 40-50 years ago, but not so many are in use now. I use an old (1929) Austrian SXS guild gun for trap and upland hunting.

I have three of them, and still use my 1100 regularly for Coyotes...

16ga is still very popular in europe, but it never caught on here in the states.

If you're the type that uses the term "shotty", then yes, you'll have never heard of these.

Yea, they never made "shotties" in 16g. However millions of 16g shotguns are around. If you were closer, I'd offer you a few bucks a box for them and pass them on to someone who would use them.

OH ok so to get a 16ga shotgun now and days would not be easy and r these shells easy to come by.

Lots of used sixteen gauge shot guns around. A few new ones are still made. Shells are are not to hard to find. The sixteen used to be more popular than the twenty.

The 16 was popular way back, and as the others have mentioned it was/is big in Europe. You can find shells here, but they are harder to get than 12 and 20. Last I heard, 16 gauge shotguns made up less than 1% of current production. Uncommon, but not dead yet. And still plenty useful. Go hit gunbroker to see what is available right now.

A couple years ago, K-Marts always had a S-load of 16g on the floor. But, yes, 16g is not uncommon by any means. It's just not quite the same as the preverbial 12g. You still see many 16s on the trap range and in the field though. My dad tinkers with a few 16s at the trap range but, he ussually competes with a 12g (not always though).

O im not interested on own a 16ga shotgun i got them from my nieghbor cause he had told me he had a lot of shells and i was looking for 12ga to go out and shoot clays got them for a back of beers so yea but there just sitting there and dont know what to do with them.

I still have a couple of 16s, an Ithaca double from 1931 and an Ithaca pump from 1948. They kill birds as well as anything else, and you can still get reloading components. There's even a 16 guage forum somewhere on the net. 16 pumps are still made by the new Ithaca plant and Remington made some 870s a few years ago.
