Bears in Pasadena...

Yesterday a friend ran into a bear in Pasadena. I was wondering, has anyone here shot a bear with a shotgun slug/buckshot here? I have read about 12 Gauge Brenneke Black Magic Magnum, 3", 1-3/8 oz. B.E.T. Power Wad Slug, but have no idea what it will really do to a bear/bobcat.

My parents live in Sierra Madre and the bears are in their yard every week. They're not very big though. I recall a bear being shot in Azusa by the police with shotguns. There were a few articles by the LA Times, but they were archived. Here's another link and you can see the officers with shotguns: http://www.kang.org/Brp.html I think they pumped about 12 rounds into it because they were concerned about it going near a schoolyard.

It takes proper shot placement and when it comes to shotguns, shooting at the right distances. I'm pretty sure the PD just pumped it full of lead. A .44mag works fine for bear. As far as a .357 goes, most Alaskan hunting guides recommend that you shave the front sight off any .357 that you are going to carry for bear. That way, when the bear takes it and shoves it up your ......, it won't hurt as much. But, with these little things we call "bears" in Ca., a .357 should work alright. Keep thinking "shot placement"!

they were here before us, face it, we smell bad, are noisy, and probably not that good to eat. throw them a twinkie or a ham sandwich, and leave em alone/run away. just because you see one does not give you the right to shoot it.

there are very few real bear attacks, mostly retards who say"I was being attacked!" as an excuse, just because they want to see something die.

Use hard cast bullets. They will penetrate more than enough to take down a bear.

is this personal experience or what you think may or may not happen?
