    Maverick 88 any good?

I'm considering making my first shotgun purchase for HD. I saw the latest ad from Turners has a maverick. What do you guys think? I would appreciate some reviews of this particular model.

    Thanks

My wife's got one. It's fairly solid, and seems to function well enough. The M590A1 is definitely put together tougher, but the Mav88 isn't a bad weapon.

I used to own a Maverick 88 (briefly). I ended up selling it and getting a Mossberg 590A1, and I still kick myself for selling the Maverick. It was a FUN shotgun to shoot! It was big, and it absorbed recoil nicely IMO. The one I had was a 'Security' model, 1+8 capacity.
What I see a lot of ppl doing, is they replace the syth buttstock, and they install a pistol grip + topfolding stock (usually with shellholder on it). That was the configuration I wanted to have on mine. I can't do that with my current 590A1 because of the large ghost ring sight on the top of it.
Comparing the maverick vs. the mossberg, the maverick was lighter, and handier. Mossberg 590's are heavy...

This configuration was made very popular when Sarah Conner used it in T2. Not bashing on it, as that's how I keep mine configured.

Interesting re: the ghost ring sight though - never thought of that as a drawback.

They DO make side-folding stocks too, btw... that'd still give you the folding feature on your 590.

Very observant Grammaton. I never fully realized that configuration was from T2. Sub-consciously, I knew in the back of my mind that a shotgun with that configuration felt very... 80's style...

Remington 870 Police Combat with Folding Stock

Near the end of the film, Sarah Connor engages the T-1000 using a Remington 870 Police Combat with Folding Stock she took from a SWAT van, outfitted with a high-capacity magazine tube and spare shotshell holders, each shot knocking her opponent progressively closer to the pit of molten steel in the mill, until running out of ammo, frustratingly close to knocking the T-1000 into the pit. One of the police officers outside Cyberdyne is also seen using one.

Cool suggestion for a side folder on my 590. I think I'll do that sometime.

What is the square block right below the top folded stock?

*grin* Unfortunately, I can't take a whole lot of credit for it. I actually only noticed it when I was re-watching T2 a while back.

Fliers say the remodeling sale ended yesterday. Let us know how you like the 88. I opted for a 500 from Big 5 for $279 out the door (in a few more days).

The guy from The Box of Truth loves it if that matters. But I think he upgraded the action bars.
