Problem with my Model 12

I am really pissed at a certain gun smith in southern cal. I took my model 12 in to be looked at due to the fact that it was slam firing and also not firing on the second shell from time to time. I get a phone call that my gun is ready. I go and pick it up and pay for the repair thinking everything is fixed $120 bucks spent. I look at the reciept and it says "intalled new firing pin, firing pin hits off center nothing we can do to improve this" I am pissed because the old firing pin should have never been replaced if it was not the problem. I never recieved a phone call saying thier is nothing that can be done. They just replaced the pin and charge me $120 and it does not fix the problem. Any suggestions???

Who was the smith??

If "slam firing" means the gun will fire as you pump it without removing your finger from the trigger between shots, some model 12's do that, as do older Ithaca 37's and a few other sg's.

$120 sounds a little steep for r&r-ing the firing pin.

I don't want to name the smith until I have a chance to go out and shoot a box of shells to see how the gun is working. I have since found out they have a 90 day warranty on all their work. This model 12 does shoot multiple shells without removing your finger from the trigger. My problem was I would take my finger off the trigger and it would sometimes fire when I was pumping the second shell into the chamber. My problem is that if the firing pin was off center they should have never replaced it with a new one. And yes I was shocked when they handed me the bill for $120 to replace a firing pin which may not have to have been replaced. I need to shot it and see if the new firing pin did anything to help the problem.

Slam firing sounds more like a hammer/sear issue to me. Something is hitting the firing pin causing it to fire, the firing pin doesn't do it by itself.

Where is Ladera Ranch?

If you haven't tried it yet why are you pissed? Maybe they fixed it. If not I know an old shotgun smith that might be able to help you out.

Ladera Ranch is right next to Mission Viejo in south Orange County. I was upset becuase I never got a call to say that the firing pin hits off center and there is nothing we can do to fix this. If replacing the firing pin does not fix the problem then they never should have replaced it. I am going out this weekend to test it. I am sitting here looking at the replaced firing pin and it looks perfectly fine. I am hoping the problem is fixed and it will be a non issue but still $120 to replace a firing pin is robbery IMHO. I will post up after I test the gun
